Our club's origins and welcoming spirit

Imber Court Bowling Club was founded in 1959 as an integral part of the Metropolitan Police Imber Court Sports Club. Initially, membership was restricted to serving and retired members of the Metropolitan Police Force. Although required to be a mixed club, there were no lady members until an independent ladies section was formed in 2000. In 2009, the two sections amalgamated to form the one fully mixed club we have today.

Nowadays, most of our membership comes from the wider local community, and we actively seek to increase our membership through advertising and our annual open day/s.

As a bowling club, we have a reputation for being one of the friendliest and most welcoming in the area. To this end, we operate a mentoring scheme for all new members, whether experienced or a novice.

Our diverse and vibrant membership

Generally, in line with the sport nationally, the majority of our members are at or close to retirement. However, when you look at lawn bowls at the highest level, the majority of players are between 20 and 40.

We are keen to encourage all ages and offer coaching to all members to help them reach their potential. Our club thrives on the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our members, creating a rich and supportive environment for everyone.

Our core values: friendship and fair play

Whilst being competitive is important, it is not what defines Imber Court Bowling Club. We are well recognised within the community as being a friendly club to play with and against. Our guiding principles revolve around fostering a sense of community, mutual respect, and sportsmanship. We believe that the joy of the game comes not just from winning, but from the camaraderie and friendships forged on and off the green.
